Duke University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the Chair of the Department of Community and Family Medicine. Candidates should have a strong background in academic medicine, including a track record of excellence in clinical service, medical education, and research, along with significant experience as a physician leader in an academic setting.
Duke’s Department of Community and Family Medicine has an established tradition of cutting-edge clinical care; nationally recognized programs in graduate, student, and physician assistant medical education; and innovative clinical and translational research. The department is particularly known for its long partnership with Durham and other communities across the state and country, and for its integrated community-health care programs that improve health and reduce cost of care. Community and Family Medicine consists of approximately 65 clinical and research faculty members, 220 staff and 20 trainees. Duke’s prestigious Physician Assistant Program is also housed within the department. Because the School of Medicine is on the Duke University campus, Community and Family Medicine is engaged in collaborative efforts across the entire university as well as the Duke University Health System.
Duke University School of Medicine is among the top medical schools in the country, perennially ranked among the top 10 schools in funding from the National Institutes of Health and in the top 10 schools by U.S. News and World Report. The Department of Community and Family ranks in the top 10 and Duke primary care ranks 8th in the nation. The signature clinical facility of the Duke University Health System is Duke University Hospital, a Magnet hospital.
Candidates should have an MD degree, academic credentials that qualify for appointment at the level of full Professor, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in North Carolina. Duke University School of Medicine and Health System are very interested in having a diverse candidate pool and would be particularly interested in women and those from other groups underrepresented in medicine.
Interested individuals should submit a statement of interest and a Curriculum Vitae by February 16 to Paige Smith via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
