The Division of Community Health operates a state-credentialed wellness center at Southern High School in Durham and partners with Durham Public Schools to provide care at local elementary schools
Southern High School Wellness Center
The Southern High School Wellness Center provides students with the health care services they need at school so they are ready to learn. Any student within the Durham Public School system is eligible to be seen at the Southern High Wellness Center. The wellness center is staffed by a physician assistant, nursing assistant, supervising physician and office manager. While most care can be handled at the clinic, staff can also arrange appointments with outside medical specialists as needed.
Partnership with Elementary School Clinics
The Division of Community Health provides clinical oversight for the Enhanced Role Registered Nurse training of three registered nurses within the Durham Health Department and the Healthy Future Durham Schools program (formerly Child Health Assessment and Prevention Program), an innovative care delivery model which is implemented at five Durham County elementary schools.
