From the Director

Viviana Martinez-BianchiWelcome to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program!

Our program is dedicated to training family physicians who are excellent clinicians, leaders, and advocates of health care within the community. We partner with a variety of local health care and community teams to meet the needs of various individuals, families, and populations, with the core goal of reducing health care disparities and improving health.

As program director, I am thankful to have a wonderful and dedicated group of staff and faculty. They are eager to learn as well as to teach, which preserves our tradition of training the best in family medicine. The success of our 40-year-old program is a direct result of their hard work over the years.

Our residents are passionate individuals, expressing interest in health care policy, advocacy, and leadership, as well as in community engagement, global health, and clinical care. We meet their interests and educational needs through a variety of strong clinical rotations, leadership opportunities, local and international electives, a strong emphasis on population health and innovative models of health care delivery and education.

If you join our team, we will call on your abilities, your passion, and your strengths to deliver the best person and community-centered health care at the highest levels of quality and lower cost. I will call on you personally to do scholarly work, represent us at meetings, and participate in state and national organizations and in committees at our institution. More importantly I will ask that you hear and represent the voices of our patients as well as the people living in our communities.

I thank you for interest and look forward to meeting you!
