Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify a shame reaction in a medical learner and distinguish it from a guilt reaction

  2. Articulate the contributing factors and negative outcomes that may occur with shame in medical learners

  3. List specific strategies for supporting a learner experiencing a damaging shame reaction

  4. List specific strategies for creating psychologically safe learning environments that promote shame resilient approaches to learning
